Mr Tran and Mrs Carruthers took parents through an engaging and innovative Mathematics lesson involving STEM, coding and robotics. Parents learnt about measurement, angles, design thinking, sequencing, events and spatial reasoning.
Mrs Pap shared her crocheting skills with our community. Parents learnt basic stitches and worked towards crochet squares to make blankets. With these new skills, parents were able to create beautiful items of their own and now pass the craft down to their children.
Mrs Pap taught parents the basic skill of knitting. Parents created beautiful scarves for themselves and continued to make them for family and friends.
Guiding your child’s behaviour Information Seminar
In partnership with Fairfield City Council and Families Together, Sadleir Public School welcomed parents and carers from the Fairfield, Liverpool and Bankstown districts. Briget Gurton, a Forensic Psychologist discussed positive parenting, understanding different behaviours and strategies to assist parents with their child’s behaviour in order to reduce the stress associated in raising children 0-7 years.
Our school community were invited to spend the morning with their children and our staff while enjoying a delicious barbecue breakfast.
Peter Dawe from the Royal Botanic Gardens visited Sadleir Public School to share his gardening tips with our community. Parents enjoyed preparing vegetable seedlings to plant in their own gardens, learning about easy irrigation systems that we can all make as well as the best plants to use for a thriving garden.
Leanne Stap, our Health Coordinator, took parents through an introduction of NDIS and how it could assist their child. Parents were given the criteria and further information to assist with the application process. The seminar gave parents the opportunity to obtain personalised guidance from Leanne and enable her to create essential links with community resources for individual cases.
NAIDOC Assembly and Aboriginal Forum
Our school celebrated NAIDOC Week with an assembly hosted by our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. During the assembly we were entertained by local Aboriginal performers, Wyl and Jack, who performed two dances, a welcome dance and an interactive cockatoo dance. Auntie Carol Brown, one of our Aboriginal Community Liaison Officers spoke to the assembly about this year’s NAIDOC theme: Voice, Treaty, Truth – Let’s work together for a shared future. Miss Dixon and the preschool group entertained us with a Torres Strait Islands song about going fishing called Taba Naba.
Child anxiety Information workshop
School Psychologist Emma Jenkins took parents through anxiety in children and tools that are used, such as the program “Get lost Mr Scary”, to assist children with skills to better manage their fears and worries.
Parents came together to take part in our annual National Families Week Morning Tea. We celebrated with cultural music, dancing and talked about our origins and backgrounds that brought us together.
Our NAPLAN Information session outlined what NAPLAN is, the purpose of the tests, understanding the results report and how parents could best help their children. Each section of NAPLAN was explained with sample questions to give parents a better understanding of NAPLAN overall.
“Parents as Tutors” information sessions
Sadleir Public School welcomes members of our school community into our classrooms. All parents and carers complete the program and the volunteer Code of Conduct and are well supported when assisting in the classrooms.Students enjoy and benefit from reading with our parent tutors.
Miss Malone, our Teacher Librarian, introduced parents to our school library and a library lesson through the eyes of our students. Parents discovered the tips that students are taught to find their favourite books and enjoy the many resources in our library.
